Archangel 3 Mandala — WIP Phase 1

Back in May I began the Archangel 3 Mandala, which is the third in a series of 7 Archangel paintings on 4’x4’ wood panels.

What I’ve done so far…

1. primed the wood panel with gesso
2. using four different sources of music books (Schumann, Mozart, and two piano drills books), I tore up and collaged the wood panel, working from the outside in. I used liquitex matte medium to do the collaging.
3. did steps 1 and 2 on two 7”x7” wood panels. I’ll use them to test different approaches for the painting phase on the full size panel.
4. I made a simplified version of the mandala design and traced it onto both test panels.

The next step is drawing out the full-size mandala design on the 4’x4’ panel.
